Wondering If This Is Correct?

I was under the impression that 3.08 wasn’t produced anymore. Thoughts??

Easy way to find out would be to call up Quick Performance directly and verify that's a real item.

'ol Pinion head 05-20-2025 10:57 AM

call 'em up & ask them, easy clue is how many splines on the pinion.

have purchase eaton style clone carriers from Quick Performance before & installed, worked fine, no problems. Not real keen on cheap Chinese R&P's & bearings.

PontiacHO 05-20-2025 11:05 AM

Yes. The offshore parts are a concern. Is there still a US made bearing-Timpken? An upgrade to a 3.08 would be nice but a growling-howling rear end is a hard NO.

PontiacHO 05-20-2025 11:48 AM

Meant to ask Pinion Head… what spline count defines the BOP 8.2 rear end. 28 pinion splines?

steve25 05-20-2025 12:52 PM

Up to 68 they where 31 spline, 69 and up then there 28.is what I recall.

Timpken would be chinese. Look for Timken. If not the any Made in Japan bearing. Used originals might have to do. Redline "Shockproof" lube for vest results.

Since you seem to know the answer to the OP's
Question, what is it? He's requesting help and I'm curious as well.

Ha! Too funny - I'm sitting at the McDonalds about a mile from their shop, waiting for them to open.

I'm picking up my 9" axle today.

Chevy 8.2 10 bol has a 25 spline pinion & pinion flange

Buick & Pontiac 8.2 10 bolts will have 27 spline pinion flange

There have been those that adapted 8.2 Chevy gearsets into Pontiac 8.2 10 bolt housings by machining a bushing that was then driven into the pinion seal bore. Then the chevy pinion seal could be used. Not something I've messed with, & am no longer assembling early gray iron 8.2's of either style.

Bearings & races are globaly sourced. Federal Mogul began sourcing the production of its bearings & races from all over the world near 30 years ago. For example there was tons of small bearing production utilizing very high quality steel out of the eastern block after the Soviet Union fell. For r/e bearings, races, & seals I typically buy locally, then examine, & if needed try another source.

I asked the eBay seller what the spline count was on the pinion, and they responded that it was a 27 spline

I used them for parts to rebuild the 10 bolt in my wife's former 71 Chevelle. They were easy to deal with and pricing was good. They did initially send a wrong axle that was mis-labeled, but they made it right with overnight shipping and return of the mis-labeled part.

I already had/have a Moser 12 bolt in my bird, so I'm not in need of any parts, but I'd definitely use them again based on my experience.

Thanks. They won’t sell just the ring and pinion. Strange. Could be a blessing in disguise.

PontiacHO 05-24-2025 12:46 PM

Does this look like an 8.5 10 bolt?http://https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fb...SQ&oe=68596331

steve25 05-24-2025 01:52 PM

I was talking about the axle splines.

Still wrong.

Fact is all Buick and Pontiac 8.2" had 28 spline axle shafts.

FWIW
