455 value
What's a 1973 455 from a grand prix with 96k miles worth?

I've seen blocks for sale locally asking around $1200 for a 455 in rebuildable condition. I don't know if they are getting those amounts or not.
|
Need more info on condition - complete and running std bore with good compression vs locked up rusted out .060 shortblock makes a huge difference.

Stock 96,000 mile engine that runs ok $1500+ is what I would ask. My2¢

I sold 2 '72 455's that ran, air cleaner to oil pan (YC Codes), for $1500.00 each a couple years ago. Both sold quickly, so maybe a little undervalued...

$400 if I'm trying to sell it...... $1000 if I'm trying to buy it

Cast rods vs steel rods, cast vs forged pistoons..

Every once in a while I will see one pop up for $500 ish. Im never fast enough to get to it first so that's probably a little underpriced.
Realistically I would say 800 if you want to get out of it pretty quickly, less if you really want it moved, and 1000 or more if you are willing to sit on it. Like others have said if you can show it has original pistons and decent bored with no overbore with a scope or something that would help. |
The 1973 400 blocks were much weaker in the main webs than earlier blocks.
I split one in that area with 300hp nitrous hit. Just a heads up, for performance applications I'd much rather use 1972 or earlier piece. |

It is the 1975 and later #500xxx blocks that are weaker. BTW, this thread is about 455´s value. |
Thank You
