Help Identifying A Carrier
 

The following carrier came with my car when I bought it. I was told that it was a posi carrier for a GTO. I have attached pictures wondering if anyone can tell me what they think that I have here. There are 37 teeth on the ring gear (never came with a pinion). Ratio says 37 / 11 were for a 336, but the stamp on the ring says 37 / 9 which would be a 411, which were not a standard option for a 1969 GTO. I guess my questions are - is this actually a posi carrier? What series is it? Would I be able to reuse my 355 ring and pinion that are presently on my open carrier?

The 4.11 ratio is stamped GM so it never came in a Pontiac A body, likely a chevelle set of gears. Chevy did make a 37-9 set for chevelles.

is the member that will be able to tell you exactly what you're looking at, as well as what it fits. Probably one of the top guys that know every GM rear axle, and parts of that era just from looking at it.

I have an identical looking carrier (LSD w/ 3.55 gears) in my 1967 Firebird. Was under the impression that it is a 3-series, cone style, 4-pinion Safe-T-Track unit but would love to know for certain. It was definitely added at some point, as the car originally had a 3.36 open axle (XG), per PHS docs.
