No headlight 1964 GTO
 

1964 gto 389 3 speed. Non ac car. I am having issues with electrical maybe somebody can help me with. First is I have non working front headlights. The dimmer switch seems to be stuck on high. The taillights are on and working, I got front and and rear working blinkers and I got brake lights. The front directionals are working as they should. I tried to see if fuses were bad and I still can’t get it to to work. On the fuse block the left hand side of it is every terminal hot when the key is on? The very top fuse was not getting power to it on the left side of the fuse block. Is it possible that this is the problem or should I start at th!start at the headlight switch? I am also not getting dash lights and there was one other short fuse that was not working. The only dash lights I get is the alternator dummy light and the high beam light. Any suggestions as to where to start? Thanks

Headlights don't use a fuse There is a circuit breaker internal to the switch.
I would start at the dimmer switch. The blue wire is common feed from the headlight switch. It should have 12 volts whenever the headlights are on. Green is high beams, tan is low. If the high beam indicator is on that means the green wire should have 12 volts too.
Does pressing the beam selector switch turn the indicator on and off?

Another possibility is that the high beam indicator bulb socket (green wire) has been replaced with a regular dash light socket. ( grey wire).

But first check voltage on the blue wire at the high beam switch to a good body ground. That will tell you which direction to go next.

Ok thanks, that will give me a start to figuring it out. The high beam indicator was going on and off when I had first started to diagnose the problem so I don’t think it’s been replaced with a different light.

If you have 12 volts to the blue dimmer switch wire unplug the switch and jump the blue wire to each of the other wires. You should then have either low or high beam lights.

Thanks for the help! Turns out the headlight issue was due to non working headlight bulbs as well the electrical connections to the headlights themselves. This car had sat for a long time and lots of corrosion on the connections and fuse box. Onto the taillights now and replacing bulbs.
