70 gto bucket seat stops
2 Attachment(s)
So I noticed 1 of the rubbers was missing on each of my bucket seats. Ordered a 4 pack. The ones sent are almost twice as thick and you can see mine have a 2 where the replacements have a 3 ,,, not sure of the significance of that. Do you have the thinner ones?
|
With the thicker stops if I let seat back normally it won’t latch and if i push the seat back to latch it won’t unlatch by the button unless I push back on the seat again.
|
myself I would cut it down with a bandsaw and be done with it.

I have pulled all different thickness off of 69-72 seats,
some even had stacks of oval washers under them I have a dozen of em I have raided off of core seats what thickness do you think you need I feel depending on the assembly of the seat it requires different stops to or for the seat back to be positioned correctly I have a pair of buckets right now original covers,,, only 3 bumpers.. pass side only has one ,,, no witness marks of bumper ever there no less a screw hole Scott 2o6-4six5-91six5 |
The thin ones look like the ones on my 1964 GP bucket seats.

Maybe during factory assembly there was a few different thickness bumpers and they used whatever worked best for the particular car. IDK. Like I said with the thicker ones installed I now have to push “back on the seat to get it to latch and unlatch which I’m sure was not the way it would have left the factory. I will take a mic and measure the thickness of my original ones. If the replacements are .51 I’d say my originals are 5/16 to 3/8”. In the pic you can see what I noticed the other day,, the rubber had fallen off one leaving just the metal backer. It was like that on both seats.

I ended up cutting these down to .440 -.450 so it latches and unlatches with minimal play in the seat.

Compare the size of the earlier ones. They may be the correct thickness.
|
careful bumping of bench mounted belt sander out to do the trick to take a little thickness off.
|
I used the Ames bumpers on my 68 and had no problem with the seat back latch.
But my buckets used only one bumper per seat, mounted to the inside. I don't know if if that was another Fremont oddity or was it common for 68? |

All 3 of my '70 bucket seat sets have .50" +/- 0.02" heights. Have a molded 3 and BI-199, maybe more. I read there are repro. ones measuring 7/16" (Maybe search 7712536).
