64 Lemans V8 engine frame mounts
 

I installed my 326 with new heavy-duty mounts from Ames and the aftermarket oil pan was hitting the steering cross linkage. So, I installed engine frame to engine mount spacers from Butler. That gave the engine clearance, but I don't like the way the engine sits in the cradle. The pan is sitting too close to the frame on the passenger side. Before I wrestle with this any further, I have a QUESTION.....the tall frame mount should be located on the driver's side, correct?

The bolt pattern is different on each frame mount so you can’t mix them up.

If you were able to bolt them down to the crossmember they’re on where they should be.

However with that said it appears from this picture of my Tempest engine bay the driver’s side frame stand is the taller one.

Thank you. The engine sat good the first time that I bolted it down, other than the pan sitting on the center link. I guess the next step is to setup the engine hoist and do a little lifting and tugging to get the engine to sit a little farther from the right-side engine perch. It's kind of been a pain in the rear so far wrestling it around with floor jacks. At least the new springs and shocks haven't been installed. I guess I should post some pictures of the build.

Finally bolted up! I had to unbolt everything.......transmission crossmember, motor mounts, and motor mount frame mounts. I believe why it was such a pain in the rear is because the driver's side mount was not manufactured straight where the long bolt goes through the mount. This is the second pair of motor mounts that I purchased. The first pair came from Rock Auto and one of the mounts had a bow towards the block. The second set was purchased from Ames. I guess I was lucky as it only took me 4.5 hours to get it bolted up. Grrrr!

It was common years ago back when stuff was fairly new to have to shim the frame half of the mount up off the frame.

The pan may be the cause as not all pans work and provide the proper clearance, 64 pan was different than all other years, 65 and up to 68 or 69 should also work but the later pans can cause issues.
