SST vs Hurst shifter stick (#5387438)- 1969 GTO

Some time back I installed a TKX from Silver Sport Transmissions and it came with their shifter stick that looks a lot like a Hurst shifter stick. I'd say they did a fine job, only the OCD in me got the better of me and I really wanted my shifter stick to have a stamped "HURST" in it. The closest one I could find is the #5387438 which is about the same length and angle, but it is also bent to the left (unlike the SST stick and an original 1969 Hurst stick for a muncie).

Below are pics of the SST in the car, comps of the two sticks together, and then the Hurst stick in the car. One thing that helps a lot is the fact that the new Hurst stick mounts to the right on the transmission which keeps the overall hand position not too far off from where it was before. I will take my first drive in it tomorrow when I drive to work (yes, this car is my daily driver)

I thought about modifying an original, but the overall length would make the shifter sit much higher than one of these due to the higher mounting point. Id' be cutting/ welding and rechroming to make that work. This was much easier.

The Hurst looks more comfortable for shifting. If you had a console then you'd probably be better suited for the other one that would put the stick more into the center of the console boot hole IMO.
And a Hurst shifter always looks better in a Pontiac than anything else, IMO again lol.

I drove it to work today and yes, it is more ergonomic angled toward the driver, although I'm 6'2 " with long legs and 1-2 were interfering with my leg so I'll either need to get used to that or look into shimming the shifter stick slightly over to the right. Agreed it feels better, and looks better, having an actual Hurst stick :D

I too swapped a TKX in place of my M-20. I also wanted the appearance of the "stock" shifter. My oem Hurst shift handle was the "bayonet"-style and of course it didnt come close to lining up with the shift receptacle on the TKX. I took my original Hurst shift handle and the supplied shift handle for the TKX to a local machine shop and had them modify them to match. Aside from sitting about one-inch higher than it did with the M-20, the OE shift handle is now "bolted" to the TKX and looks factory stock.

that's great! I've ordered some tapered washers and I'll attempt to shim it over toward the passenger side a little to get this to position more vertically. Wit hthe shifter boot on it won't be visible.

Solved- added some tapered washers purchased on Amazon which offsets the shifter stick to a more vertical position, and no longer interferes with my legs while driving.

Perfect! Looks like it was made for it. Looks great!
