TURN SIGNAL QUESTION '66 GTO
 

Hi,
When I turn "on" my turn signals, in either direction, my voltmeter shows a discharge with each flash of the turn signal. There is no effect on anything else electrical that I can detect.
Is this indicative of a "hot wire" creating a short before or after the current goes thru the "flasher", or does it maybe indicate a short of some type in the "flasher"?

On a 66 GTO whenever you activate your turn signals you add voltage on the bright side to a total of four #1157 light-bulbs.

One in the front grill and 3 (each side) in the tail lamp panel. That current draw alone is enough to deflect most any amp gauge. Different brands of Amp gauges may have a variation of sensitivity but there may no problem at all with your car.

Try this: Key on; engine running, no turn signals but touch your brake pedal down at least 1 & 1/2". Now you are adding 12 volts battery + to six #1157 light bulbs. (That is assuming all six bulbs are working.) See what your amp gauge shows you then.

Most likely showing a voltage drop in your wiring when all those bulbs light up. Where are you measuring the voltage or current?

Notice he said "voltmeter", which implies non-stock electrics. I'll bet it has a one-wire alternator.

Allan, what happens if you hold the engine RPM up a bit? Say 1200-1500 RPM?

I have my voltmeter wired to my dash power and the voltage does blink along with signals.
