Rear tranny mount query??
 

Is there a solution to the "too tall" rear transmission mount? Muncie linkage is jammed into the floorpan with a new rubber mount.
They all seem to be 1.75 high or more! Needing about 1.50 height or less.
67 GTO, a factory manual car.
Tried numerous vendor mounts, returned at counter, way too high.
Solution???

Worst case would be to mod the crossmember.

Cut and drop the pad where the mount rests. You could easily drop it by 1/2” and maybe add shims if that’s too much.

Some welding and fabricating involved but not rocket science.

Original transmission crossmembers are readily available and fairly cheap, you could buy an extra one to mod if necessary.

Mounts are brand new, engine isn't broken in yet!!

Chevelles have the same identical problem!

Modify the crossmember.

After that the “too tall” parts store mounts will work.

I've only run into that issue with aftermarket mounts. I prefer to not modify the cross member and just modify the mount. This is one reason I usually buy the poly mounts and I shave them down. In some cases they are too short out of the box and have to be shimmed.

You can also lower the entire crossmember by eliminating the rubber end cushions and clamps and just bolt the crossmember directly to the frame.

Drill a few holes and you’re done. My ‘64 GTO bracket car was like that when I first bought it, worked fine no issues.

You should be able get that 1/4” your looking for or very close to that.
