Turn Signal Not Cancelling
 

On my '64 non-tilt car, the turn signal lever will not cancel on a right turn, but cancels OK on a left turn.

Last year, I replaced it with a repro switch, which cancelled perfectly, but blew the turn signal fuse each time it was activated, so I put the old switch back in.

Have any of you figured out a fix for the non-cancelling problem? If the nubs on the plastic cancelling cam were just a little higher, all would be great, but they're quite high enough.

I have a spare, used switch, but am not eager to do the replacement again unless you folks have no other solution.

How about epoxy on the "nubs"?

I noticed the steering shaft is not concentric with the upper column. The steering shaft needs to be sprung about 3/8" to allow assy. of the directional switch inside the column housing. Is there a way to adjust the column to correct this?

This may have something to do with failure to cancel on right turn only.

I replaced the turn signal switch and now both directions cancel as they should. However, I am concerned about the steering shaft being so far off center in the column. This is putting undue strain on the ball bearing in the turn signal switch and the bearing in the firewall steering column sleeve.

The only way I see to correct this would be to reposition the input to the steering gear. This, however, is not adjustable.

Any ideas?

HELLO DiCK , I am also chasing issues w/ my turn signals. Tracked down a problem, the original 1964 Voltage reg. It was toast.
When I was testing all the lights i may have left the left turn sig. on too long. None of the turn sigs. work now.
Replaced the Flasher. Could the problem be in the steering collum? What switch did you buy? BTW, the fuses are all good.
