'68 Forward Lamp Wiring Harness Routing Question
 

Does the forward lamp wiring harness route behind the front fender (and just lay on top of the inner fender well) or does it route along the inner fender well fully visible in the engine compartment?

I have the '68 Service Manual but it's impossible to make out the routing picture in section 12. Can't tell which side of the fender the harness goes.

On top of the inner fender. Fully visible. Should have 2-3 two inch straps holding it in place.

Vacuum hoses for headlight doors (if equipped) are wrapped with the harness

Most '68 Firebirds, including unrestored originals, I've seen in photos or in person had the harness clipped on the engine side of the inner fender. I have seen that harness both low and higher up on the inner fender.

I've learned that there are many things about these '68s that are not absolutes. I have seen a few cars with the harness hidden within the fender. I am unsure if any were unrestored originals or not.

What a judge in a Concours or POCI show accept, I don't know.

Interestingly, the illustrations in the Pontiac '72 parts book shows the routing within the fender.

My apologies, I thought you were referring to the A body.

OG68 - no problem, coincidentally my '66 GTO is like yours, on the engine-side of the inner fender fully visible retained by several plastic straps.

Jim - given the freedom to have it several ways, I chose to go behind the fender (like the parts book and the service manual show) for the cleaner look that it yields versus having it on the engine-side.

It does look cleaner with it tucked in
