4 speed shifter options, rebuilders?
 

I had the Muncie rebuilt last year and am now just getting to drive the car a bit to break in the new motor. I've noticed the shifter is very notchie and stiff, I had it rebuilt by Hurst back in the Eighties and it worked wonderful then. As time has gone on the car has not been used as much so I am sure the lubrication has dried up, 2 weeks ago I sprayed a good lube on it, not penetrating oil and it has not gotten any better. I am thinking that maybe I need to get the car up on the lift and do the adjustment of the rods again.
Is there a modern 90 weight gear lube I should put in the trans?
If none of this works does anyone know of a good rebuilder or have suggestions for a new shifter that will accept my factory shifter handle? The pattern of the shifter seems very wide and long. Maybe it is my imagination since the shifters in my other cars are not 54 years old.

They’re not all that difficult to rebuild yourself. There are a few videos on YouTube to assist and give you an idea

I am going to do the You Tube thing next to see how hard it is, but it is nice to have a plan B just in case. One of the FAQ on the second site is " I started to rebuild it myself and now I am stuck"

Those are great videos. I met this guy at Norwalk in 2024, he is great guy to talk to and has great prices. This gives me the confidence that I can clean and lube the shifter myself. As long as you take your time and follow his instructions it seems a straight forward project. The car goes in for the stereo install this week, the week after will be shifter project.
