68 Firebird clutch
 

This is my first manual 60’s car and it definitely needs a clutch. Car is a 68 Firebird 400 with the original 4 speed. The car has headers, edelbrock intake, brawler carb and an unknown aftermarket cam from the 70’s. The car also has a 12 bolt with 4.11 gears.

The car seems to run strong for the little bit I’ve driven it (sat for about 40 years).

Can anyone suggest a good replacement clutch? I don’t need anything extreme, just something a little better than stock that will survive some spirited driving. The car will probably never see the track.

make sure the flywheel is freshly cut and break the clutch in,no burnouts or slipping it for 500 normal miles.

I run a Hayes street/strip kit and Hayes flywheel on a 420hp/ 485tq 400 with an M20 and 3.90s . It has 6’000 miles on it and has been excellent. No chatter and good pedal feel .

I am using a rebranded Centerforce that American Powertrain sold me with my trans kit. It was their house brand when I bought the trans and it was obvious what it was and now that’s what they sell so you do the math lol. It works great and is easy to drive.

I have a centerforce dual friction, it’s fine, if a bit heavy on the pedal. Slips nice.

If you’re looking for something on the more affordable side, lotta guys say the Luk clutches hold up to some romping
