Installing factory door edge guards??

Are there any tricks you've discovered to installing NOS factory chrome door edge guards without chipping the nice fresh paint?
Done this before without much success.
BTW, '71 - up clip on style.

There is a thread somewhere here, I can’t find it. Measure the edge of the door with a caliper. Sand down the end of a paint stirring stick to that measurement. Tap the sanded down stick into the door edge guard top to bottom. Worked great for me.

You're so good at finding those old threads!
The Esprit molding install went pretty well back then.
The '70 TA with screw on moldings did not. Thick paint with a clear coat (catalyzed enamel shot back in 1982. I'm thinking it is Centari).
