'67 GTO hood questions?
 

I'm reassembling the scoop to the hood on a '67 GTO. I can't find the fasteners that came out during disassembly. Does the scoop use the flimsy looking stamped nuts or something else? It seems like I remember removing nuts with serrated washers built in. Also, what are you guys using for the seam sealer that went between the scoop and the hood?

What is the right way to align the hood to the body? This is a GTO hood I'm swapping onto a '67 LeMans, so the hood didn't come from this car.

As an aside, what year did Pontiac go from using carriage type bolts that fit in keyholes in the hood, to a threaded insert and bolts? The '67 LeMans hood I removed had normal bolts that threaded into inserts in the hood itself. This GTO hood has keyholes that fit carriage bolts. Does this mean the hood is actually from a '66 GTO? Where can I find the correct bolts, or are box store carriage bolts OK to use?

To aid in aligning the hood, you probably want to remove the latch or the striker pin until you have your gaps suitable. 65 and 66 used the key hole/carriage style bolts, 67 had nuts in the hood.
There was no sealer used between the cast scoop and the hood.

The hood scoop nuts 9419784 were the stamped steel versions but I also recall that the nuts with the serrated washers were originally used. Perhaps the same part number was used for both.

The assembly manual called out a hood scoop sealer but I found black strip caulk to work well and can be easily trimmed and cleaned off the edges without messing with the paint.

I put a popsicle stick on the bench grinder and sharpen it
for a trim tool for that sealer.Finger nails work too but no one
wants black gooey stuff under their nails.

I got the 3M strip caulk from auto parts store. That stuff is gummy as hell and stuck to the packaging. Will putting it in the freezer make it easier to work with? I really like the popsicle stick trick, I'll give that a shot.

So I ordered the correct hood studs with the spring clip retainer. Does anybody have a picture or a diagram of how they are supposed to be installed? I assume I can lift one side at a time and install them?
