66 GTO Carter AFB value?
 

Hey guys I have bought parts from a nice older gentleman yesterday and in the lot there was his original 66 GTO carburetor.

I dont think I'll ever use it, could you guys help identify and assess fair value for that carb which I would consider a good complete core to start with.

Maybe its something someone would need for their GTO restoration. Im pretty good with carbs but never dabbled much with Carter's AFB.

I can't comment on that particular model, but I can tell you that I recently paid $95 + shipping for what appeared to be a mostly complete (sans choke spring) 3300s, which turned out to be a bust, considering the amount of corrosion hidden here and there. It turned out to be unsuitable for my purposes.

The one I have coming in now (another 3300s) cost $175, and it looks clean-clean from the pics.

Jon can likely comment in more detail about what might make one core stand out above another to increase its value.

(FWIW, my 3300s is for a '63 with auto.)

If you plan to sell it, I would open it up to show the bowl, etc. I also purchased a carb from a well-regarded (not by me) carburetor shop, and the inner parts were completely corroded. The guy who sold it to me, who told me it was a "nice original" then said, sorry, no refunds. I was out $250.

Regarding pricing, I usually look around on ebay, etc., to get an idea of prices and usually ask less.

Check eBay for past sales. I have a couple but tags are necessary to know what they are unless you break them down and post the parts found here

I have several AFB's that are in good rebuildable condition (not for a GTO though) and have never paid more than $50 for one. I suppose that someone that wants a numbers matching one will pay big bucks. How many people are there out there though?

I removed the lid to see if it was good inside, my eyes are too bad to read the jeeps or the metering rods ( I use a magnifier for my nitrous jets lol )

The thing seema clean and complete for something that is 60 years old.

Look closely at the pri booster brass nozzles in post #6. Rounded, bullet shaped ends.
Pontiac/Carter ahead of the game. in 66. Edel used the same design 30 yrs later...

The value of these carbs is in the time and materials spent by a competent rebuilder, otherwise regardless of the tag, it just ends up being a core. I have shelf of cores that I would be fortunate if I got $75 each. They are not corroded, but dirty, stained etc. Some look as good as this. None are frozen

Well if its no use for someone here and worth basically nothing (25$) ill just put it on ebay .
