1966 TP carb tags
 

Hello,
Can anyone provide the correct anodize colors of the 1966 GTO TriPower
carbs (front/center/rear) aluminum tags? A 4-speed car if that is needed.

We always have to take into consideration the color loss on these aluminum triangle tags from gasoline and carb cleaner etc. over the decades.

Here’s what I show from Survivor tags.

An Original ‘66 with 3x2’s below.
Front tag - bare aluminum.
Center tag - red anodized.
Rear tag - orange anodized.

I’m sure the front was also a designated color for assembly line workers identification.

PS, FYI, 1966 used a light blue spring for the throttle return. Not a yellow spring like some people think.

60’s Stuff, the photo showing the blue return spring is very interesting. It appears different from the reproduction springs available. The reproduction has a group of coils near the center with a straight section ending in a hook on either side of the coils. The spring in your photo appears to have coils end to end with shorter straight sections that end in a hook. It even appears to be wound from larger diameter wire. It’s hard to tell though without seeing this blue spring in its relaxed state. Maybe it’s an optical illusion. Are these springs really different? Interested to learn anything additional you may know.

Factory OEM throttle return springs for 1966.
Three factory’s if not more used the light Blue springs with offset hooks.
Below photos are Original Unrestored Survivor cars.

My BF=Fremont.
KAN=Kansas.
PON=Pontisc.

Original paint return springs.

1965 = Yellow with equal hooks.
1966 = Blue with offset hooks.

Thanks for the additional info and pics. I guess the blue spring is a little different, especially the offset hooks feature which appears to be included on the reproduction that our host sells. Would have never picked up on this if I hadn’t read Joe’s post and your reply. Filing this in my TriPower file for sure.

No, different shades of blue ….. but similar.

From survivor tags:

389 W/AT

Front - purple
Center - black ??? maybe
Rear - bronze

389 W/ST

Front - gold
Center - red
Rear - burnt orange

421 - no information
