1970 Inner Fender Removal??
 

I was wondering if anyone here has ever removed their inner fenders WITHOUT removing the fenders as a unit? As in, the car is fully assembled, can those inner fenders be removed???

I read on a Chevelle forum that they can do it, so if it's possible on a 70 GTO I'd like to know how best to do this. I have all the attaching hardware out and it flops around but for the life of me can see how to remove them.

Any advice is appreciated.

I removed the inner fender on my 71 GTO just by removing all bolts and gently forcing the inner down and out with the help of another big guy. I did have to remove the bottom outer fender bolts close to the door for a small amount of additional space and did not bend or damage the outer fender in the process.

Well I am currently going through panel fitting mock up and, yes it takes a lot of loosening to get it out. The inner fender lip sits on top of the fender lip, plus it attaches to the bottom rad support and has a flange that extends over the front frame rail. It takes a lot of wiggling and you need the tire off

So I was able to remove them without too much trouble after all. Once all the obvious bolts were out it flopped around quite easily but still didn't want to come out. The key for me was to loosen the two lower aft fender bolts enough to pull the bottom of the fender out a couple inches and they practically fell out. This was all done with the wheels on but on jack stands under the frame rails so the suspension was hanging down.
