64-65 Thermostat Housing

Dumb question of the day. Is the water neck for a non tri-power intake unique or special in any way? I see that Ames only sells 66 and up water necks but not 64-65. Not sure if just a matter of flipping the Thermostat Housing or not.

On my 64 the PO put in a universal radiator that has the top hose to the driver side. I have been going back and forth on if I want to go with a fully stock looking 64-65 radiator or 66-67 radiator.

I think if you try to use a later housing it will point towards the right rear. Like the 10 o'clock position not the 8 o'clock position looking from the front.

This is the factory correct thermostat housing for a 1965 GTO with the 4BBL.

Shown is my ‘65 Unrestored Survivor and a spare housing I have.

I ran into the same problem on my ‘64 Tempest. Only, to complicate things, the two thermostat bolt holes on the Offenhauser manifold are clocked at about 8 and 2 o’clock instead of like a Pontiac manifold which is clocked at 6 and 12 o’clock. I will probably use the BOP rotatable thermostat housing with the o-ring so I can clock it to fit my needs. I believe I have that housing 60sstuff showed in his photo, if you need one and don’t get the one from 60sstuff. Good luck
