Cross flow muffler (Stock type) water accumulation ??? potential rust problem...
 

I installed a new gardner exhaust system last year. Love the fit and finish. I've noticed upon start up alot of condensation coming out and recently its rust colored. I was thinking of drilling some weep holes in the bottom of the muffler to drain this condensation to keep the muffler from rusting out on the inside.

Has anyone else had this and/or drilled weep holes in their mufflers????

The original GM mufflers had weep holes on the ends. Check to make sure the muffler is not upside down.

I have a Gardner system sitting in the box. I'll have to pull the muffler out and see if there's any drain holes.

Condensation and rust will only be an issue if you never let the engine run up to normal temps. Once at operating temps any moisture inside the engines crank case or exhaust systen evaporates.

This is why I only start my old cars If I know I can let em run lor drive em long enough to " burn off" the condensation happenning until the engine reaches optimal running temps.

A top shelf old timer exhaust guy told me he drills a hole in every muffler he installs. I've done the same from that point forward.

Yes it used to be muffler shops would do it for you. But those days are gone. Maybe due to state emissions checks?

Took care of it today…… I put two 3mm holes in bottom of muffler ( one on each end). Had about 4oz of water come out while drilling the holes. Ran it today up to full operating temperature then put it away. Seems good now.

Always let it get hot. No problem
