1971 GP Key Questions

Hope this is the right place to ask this question. Are '71 GPs keyed so that the ignition and console lid are the same using the square headed key? And the doors and trunk keyed the same using the oval headed keys?

No, door & ignition are the rectangle key... console lid & trunk lid are the oval key.

I believe the terminology prior to the 1974 change was that the square key was the “valet” key - because that’s all you had to give the valet, and it left some private areas of your car inaccessible to said valet.

Makes Sense

Thanks guys, I might be ok with rekeying this car. The driver's door seems to have original lock, hopefully the ignition switch hasn't been changed out. The console lock is intact, someone had used a screwdriver to break into the trunk. Guess we will see how it works out. Thanks again.

the console lock, if original, should have the code stamped on the case.
ditto with the door locks.
I believe Ames sells kits - but I am unsure on what precisely is offered for the GP’s.
