Rear Coil Spring - Factory Height
 

I purchased rear coil springs (S364) for my 69 GTO 4-speed hardtop from Ames, and they are a couple inches too tall. I searched other threads here and I see a lot of information, but I still can't figure out which Moog springs provide the correct height. Any pictures that you could provide with Moog part numbers would be most appreciated.

I think the ones you ordered sit an 1 1/2 higher than the standard springs. I attached a picture of the standard ones in the catalog.

Thanks bluejudge. Ames said the "standard ride" and "firm ride" were the same height.

When I spoke with them they told me there was an 1 1/2 difference. There was a conversation on here about Moog 5401 for factory height and that’s what I went with. I posted a picture of my car, I know it’s not a HT but that’s what I put them in. I will try and look for the link on here and see if I can attach it later.

I just bought a set of the 363 springs (standard ride) and the car (69 GTO cvt) sits way too high (1.5-2"). I've bought several pairs in past years that sat perfect, perhaps Ames switched suppliers. Both the S363 standard ride and the S364 firm ride say they are stock ride height but this is no longer the case I guess.

I just mentioned this in another recent thread:

Call Coil Spring Specialties if you want an exact height, exact copy GM spring. They are perfect. More money than Moog, but great results the first time. I have full sets on both my cars.

68 GTO here, no a/c, no power brakes, and 4-speed.

Used the common MOOG 5401 springs for the rear and 5380 for the fronts.

A 68-69 GTO with stock tires should measure about 9.5" front and 9.0" rear with a full tank of gas and no occupants in the car. This is measured from the bottom of the rocker molding to the ground about 6" from each end of the rocker molding.
