RIP Ace Frehley KISS was never the same without you

Aces laugh was one of the all-time greats and he was good at making Gene and Paul lighten up and get out of their ego. One year in highshcool some friends and I dressed up as KISS. We felt like the coolest dudes as everyone told us how kewl we looked. We even played the first series in our JV game in makeup till the referee said we had to wipe it off.
RIP Ace

I just found out about it moments ago and came here to see if it was posted.
Really sad news.
Rest in Peace to the Ace of Space

The 4 original members were due to receive honors at Kennedy Center in December.
Wish he could have made it to that.
Gene and Paul recently sold ALL the rights to KISS for $350 million .

Ace was always my favorite feature of the band.
Always amazing how well that band did , I never thought they would catch on at first.
Didn't like them for a while until they started putting out songs that couldn't be denied.
Never went to any of their numerous shows in my local area.
Their big fans back in the day made the concerts more like a Rocky Horror Picture Show event.
I wasn't into that .

Ace was an innovator in a mediocre band with big egos. RIP and thank you for some of the coolest riffs and solos of my youth!

I was a KISS fan up until about age 13. I'm just glad that ACE was out playing with his new band for the last few years, seemed like that was good for him. The internet says his net worth at the time of his death was only around 1 million. Is that because he mismanaged his money or because Stanley and Simmons screwed him? I don't know. What a life...

I like this video of him covering Fire and Water with Stanley:

RIP Dude.

About an equal amount of both.
After Peter Criss and Ace left the first time , they sold out their stakes back to Gene and Paul.
Eventually burned all through it.

The time(s) they rejoined Kiss , they were just hired hands per show. And Broke
I think Peter only rejoined once , Ace twice.

They were both equally stupid people.
Compared to Gene and Paul being virtual genius.

Gene was estimated at 400 million before they sold all the rights.
Paul 200 million before selling the rights.
The rights were 350 million , but I don't know the splits.

There is a cool description of the pyrotechnics going on with Ace’s guitar in the book ‘Look Me In The Eye’ by John Robison who was one of the guitar techs/innovators. Would have loved to have seen a peak late-70s Kiss concert. RIP Ace.

They shoulda got rid of Simmons, not ace.

You can buy fake Gibson Les Paul copies from China of Ace's two versions of the triple pick-up Les Paul's.
The Sunburst Budokan and the Blue Sparkle.
Around $300 - each , new to your door.
They are very authentic looking down to the Gibson logo.

And surprisingly well made.
Some need to go through a luthier for optimum playability.

Since his passing , they may have raised the prices , or availability may be less due to demand.
At one time during certain sales you could get them for around $200-250.
I used to frequent a Facebook page that centered around Chinese rip-off Gibsons.
They were called Chibson guitars - slang nickname.

Real Ace Frehley Gibsons in nice used condition can be around 10+k
New condition around 20+k
Documented autographed models ,,, moon money.

Ace also had fan club meetings and guitar signings at shows with his band.
For different amounts of money he would sign guitars and take pictures with you and the guitar.
Even the knock-off copies.
If you paid the fee - you got the autograph on your guitar.

Lots of people in the Chibson community have the Ace replicas.
Quite a few got them autographed by Ace personally.

.

I think you are giving Paul and Gene to much credit well maybe more Gene. Paul was the main driving force as the music always came first for him. Gene thought he was some kind of movie star especially dating Cher. Ace and Criss they do not get enough credit in writing some of KISS's best songs. Also there was a reason Ace's solo album sold better than the other 3 guys in the band. Gene and Paul only started to make real money again once they put the make up back on and started to play the old songs. I think ACE and Peter were stupid for selling their rights to the band name especially Ace he designed the KISS logo. That is the whole reason Ace and Peter left the reunion because they were getting paid peanuts while Gene and Paul raked in the cash.
Ace and Peter deserved better from Paul and Gene

Baron Von Zeppelin 10-20-2025 02:23 PM

Gene was the business end, and most of the early theatric force.
Paul was the music and the band force. And the lead singer.
They both knew how to capitalize on the main priorities of success.

Ace was the overall fan favorite.
Peter wrote their biggest hit , Beth.
Both were idiots.
And both sold their stake in the band
Both were fired in round 1 .
Ace even agreed on firing Peter at the time. It was unanimous.

Peter quit round 2 when he found out that Ace had leveraged to be paid more than Peter.
Peter 40k vs Ace 50k per show.
Ace wasn't going to stay in unless he got 10k more than Peter.
Eventually Ace told Peter that himself - and Peter quit almost immediately.
Dumb and Dumber strike again.

Ace quit round 2 when he was about to be fired again.
Ace and Peter usually claim they quit and were never fired from the band on either count.

They wouldn't let Ace or Peter come in on the last tour even for free.
Both were self-destructive numbskulls.
It was a shame

They were all about 5 times uglier when they took off the make up than I would have ever guessed.

burd 10-20-2025 05:50 PM

Kiss was terrible after the 2 left.

ta6point6 10-23-2025 12:12 PM

Gene was no businessman he rode Paul's coat tales to fame and most of the songs he wrote or sang were terrible except maybe 15% of them. I will agree when they took the makeup off.........:oogle:

Who knew Ace’s costume was a plumber.

Yeah earlier in the show Tom Snider called Gene a bass player (like a fish) and Ace said he was a trout player. That whole show you could just see Paul and Gene getting more pissed as the show went on, well more Gene. Ace was stealing the spotlight from them. Paul even said in a later clip that he and Gene were too full of themselves and uptight back then on the Tom Snider show.
I also like this clip of Paul mocking Gene who was always trying to put on the typical rock & roll schtick, how all these women throwing themselves at him. Gene was just a just a pompous caricature of himself

Baron Von Zeppelin 10-24-2025 03:14 PM

Gene had a net worth of 400 million
Paul had a net worth of 200 million
BEFORE they sold all the rights to KISS for 350 million.

They likely made the same cut from KISS.
Gene was the business end , Paul was the music.
Gene knew Business and Financial matters.
In KISS , and beyond KISS .
That's why he was at 400 , and Paul at 200.

He taught 6th grade in NY before forming KISS.
That would be wild to look back and realize he was your 6th grade teacher.

burd 10-25-2025 10:25 AM

At any rate, when those 2 guys left, band was 💩
