Sealing Trunk from Cabin
 

On my 69 Lemans I am finally getting my rear firewall made. I have templates started on the seat back and package tray. Will be finishing it with .032 alum. My question is how do most seal the area through the quarter, over the wheel tubs and up to the sail panel into the roof?

that is a good question. I wuld do aluminum as you are in the back. I am pretty sure mine only has the factory cardboard panel covering that opening, and tech has never questioned it. That being said, if an event occured in the trunk it could enter through the rear quarter openeings for sure.

I got the rear seat and package tray cut out in the aluminum. Also here is the templates made for sealing the quarter panel opening. I will make sure to leave a gap along the outside body to not transfer through the paint.

What sealant can anyone recommend sealing up the gaps in the firewalls?

I was thinking about using a fire rated sealant from home depot but I'm not sure if that is overkill. What ever I put along the quarter opening should be something that stays somewhat pliable.

def caulk any gaps. Tech noted some gaps in my sheetmetal and suggested silicone. That was after the car had been thru tech there about 100 times of course. better safe then sorry.
