*RARE * 1974 Trans Am SD455 'X' code 'roller project' for sale

We’re selling a 1974 SD455 Trans Am project that we purchased from Ken Crocie, the owner of ‘H.O. Racing’ many years ago.

***PLEASE read this post carefully, as we are willing to sell this Trans Am in various configurations.***

This *RARE* SD455 Trans Am is located in Las Vega$, NV and has a clear Nevada title.

Selling as a ‘roller’.

PHS verified as an original SD455 car, but was and is missing the original engine. When we bought it, it had an incorrect-but-complete 1973 SD455 engine installed, which has recently been removed and sold.

Still has the correct Turbo 400 transmission and 3.08 limited slip rear-end.

It’s an original ‘X’ code 1974 Trans Am. 1 of only 731 built with the SD455 and a Turbo 400 automatic transmission.

Factory-original buccaneer red with black standard interior.

Overall, it’s in decent shape, but needs complete restoration.

Carpet is not factory. Console and factory shifter are still in place.

There is rust-through in the trunk floor and passenger’s side footwell and a small spot in the passenger’s side fender. Frame rails are good.

The paint is poor (it appears to be original) but no major bodywork is needed, with the exception of the mentioned rust repair.

The black interior is original and is well-worn. Headliner board is completely missing. All gauges work and dash panel needs restoration. Dashpad is in fair condition. Driver’s seat backrest has a broken frame.

Factory options include 3.08 limited slip rear-end, automatic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, tilt steering column, AM radio and 8-track player. Unfortunately, the AM radio and 8-track player were already long gone when we purchased it.

Original 1974 Trans Am shaker hood, air cleaner and shaker assembly (with open scoop) included and all are in fairly good condition.

Original 3-pc rear spoiler, all (four) wheel flares and front spoiler are installed and in decent shape.

Ken installed polyurethane control arm bushings and sway bar links when he owned it, so the bushings squeak. We’d planned to go back to quieter (delrin?) bushings when we restored.

We had big plans for this beauty, but have since decided to let another Pontiac enthusiast take it over and get it back-on-the-road.

Asking price is $25k as a roller. Car is located in Las Vega$, NV.

Any or all of the following SD455 items can be included at extra cost:

- set of original HO Racing Tri-Y headers, along with a complete Flowmaster cross-flow exhaust system. Currently installed on the Trans Am, but we’d plan to keep at least the headers. Probably the entire exhaust.
- set of (4) 16x9 Centerline Champ 500 wheels with seriously OLD Falken 255/50VR16 tires. Again, it’s sitting on these, but we plan to keep them. We could either sell with ‘rollers’ or with a set of 15x7 Rally II wheels
- production-line original ‘Y8’ casting #490132 block with NO partial VIN stamping, so it could possibly be the ‘original’ block
- pair of ‘16’ casting SD455 cylinder heads – bare, used
- set of (16) NOS factory SD455 valves – new in boxes
- set of (8) nice used SD455 connecting rods
- set of (16) NOS SD455 connecting rod bolts and nuts – new in boxes
- NOS factory 455 Nodular iron crankshaft – brand new
- NOS SD455 80PSI relief spring and housing to convert a 60PSI oil pump to factory SD455 specs
- used #490802 & 490803 factory SD455 exhaust manifolds
- pair of NOS #4202 Hooker Competition Plus 2” round port headers
- NOS factory #7044270 quadrajet carb (yes, new in box)
- used #485640 aluminum intake with correct 1972 exhaust crossover
- complete SR SD455 engine equipped with Accel EFI and all electronics
- I’m sure we can round up some more SD455 stuff

Again, the asking price for this Trans Am as an ‘engine-less’ roller with a clear Nevada title is $25k.

Price will vary if you choose to include any of the ‘extra’ SD455 items mentioned above.

Here are a few pics to show overall body condition. I’ll get better pics this weekend, as it’s pretty much buried in our warehouse at the moment.

Thanks everyone for checking out our listing !!

hi wondering if the car is still for sale if so any more pictures ? sounds like some rust were was it from originally ? thank you

Joe's Garage 11-01-2025 05:11 PM

Still for sale at this moment.

LOTS of interest but no-one has pulled the trigger yet.

Car originally delivered in Kentucky, but moved to California in the early to mid 1980s.

Then we bought it about fifteen years ago and brought it to Vega$, where it's been stored in our warehouse this entire time, except for those times when we were driving it.....

Yes, the trunk floor and passenger's foot-well have rust-through and will need to be replaced. You might get by with just the passenger's side of the trunk floor.

We're working on getting it clear and out of the warehouse so we can get better pics.

Thanks for the inquiry!
