Once in a lifetime opportunity
 

Visited the Savoy Auto Museum in Cartersville, Ga today for an amazing and unique exhibit of about a dozen Duesenbergs. Most people will never have a chance to see one of these cars in person, let alone a group of 12 in the same place. Being able to examine up close the design, engineering, and craftsmanship on these cars was really a treat. Everything about them is so over the top and inspiring to an amateur restorer like me. Doubt if I can post pics of them all, but will try to show you some of my favorites.

I have read about the ACD museum and have seen some photos. A few of the cars in the Savoy exhibit are on loan from the ACD museum, others from other museums and private owners.

I first went to the ACD museum in the mid 90's with my dad. The last time was a few years ago when my wife had a long term every other week assignment in Jackson, MI, so one weekend I flew down to Detroit and we drove down to Auburn so she could see it.

Right next door is the National Automobile and Truck Museum. Not nearly as beautiful a building, the cars aren't a pristine, but worth a stop.

The first time I saw a Deusy up close and personal (I think) was at the Greenwich Concours in 2023. I was immediately taken by the sheer massiveness of the hood. The grandeur of these beasts is simply unparalleled.

Now you guys have me thinking about swinging over to Indiana in December when I go to Ohio for my annual cardiologist appt at Cleveland Clinic. Hmmm...

That beautiful building alone is worth a visit.

COOOL! I saw my first Doozy at a huge auction in ME back in the ‘80s as a young teen. One of my biggest regrets in life occurred at this auction. There was a beautiful black ‘69 GTO 4 speed car there that had a hot pink fuzz interior. Think troll hair. It covered every surface but the steering wheel. I knew that car would sell for nothing, but we could not stay to bid on the car since it was so far down the list.

Can't argue with you on that.

Our daughter had the opportunity to have a dinner at a sales conference in the building before my dad passed in 2002. She bought him an ACD poster for room in his assisted living facility.

That's one of the reasons that my wife and I went. When my dad, my daughter and I had all been there, it just made sense to get my wife there.

All of us have collector cars, and one of them is one my dad bought when I was 4 years old.

The Art Deco building is beautiful. Those cars just make it more beautifuller....

Went to the ACD museum twice, last time in 2017 with my late mom. She loved it...turns out I got my car obsession from her. We did The Henry Ford on the same trip. ACD is a bucket list destination for any classic car enthusiast.Attachment 660290
