Manifold Replacement

4 Attachment(s)
Was having inconsistent idle quality as engine went from cold start, to off choke, to highway running temps. Idle was very good on choke, then very rich off choke as engine warmed up. Coming in off the highway, idle was very good, but 400rpm higher. Knowing I had a crack in the base of the heat crossover on the Torker-I manifold, I am thinking it must have grown into the plenum or some runners, so I decided to replace it with a repro RamAir IV. The runners on the new one (Chinese of course), looked a little uneven, so I had Reher-Morrison's techs work on it to balance out the flows. Taking the Torker off, the crack was definitely apparent, but what was more surprising was the granular debris in the heat crossover. I say surprising because the crossover had been blocked on both heads.

The exhaust crossover ports in the 6X-4 heads were totally clean and I was please to find no top end leaks anywhere, so it was on with install. Engine fired up fine, but I encountered a fountain of coolant spraying from the thermostat bypass. The Mr. Gasket O-Ring wasn't thick enough to seal correctly. So it was a five hour search the next morning to locate some 1/4" viton material for a new O-Ring. Fortunately, Blaylock Gasket in Fort Worth was willing to actually cut a pair of new ones for me while I waited. The install is pending!

Would you mind sharing the Reher-Morrison contact info with me? Would like to have them do something similar with my ‘72HO intake.

Finally got proper gaskets and O-Ring for a leak free install and added Butler's AN fuel line kit for the Edelbrock mechanical fuel pump to quadrajet connection. (I did have to get a different fitting to replace the quadraject filter housing though, Earl's Performance Plumbing fitting at Summit Racing, part number AT991943ERL ).

Went through warmup and finally got the tune in with idle screws out at 2 turns, initial ignition set at 14 degrees. Was able to get it to idle at 650 in drive with the A/C on and idle speed only jumped to 800 in park.

So I'm ready for some feedback if you think manifold vacuum at 12 inches is okay for this setup:

350 block with 4.25" crank for 413 cu in
6X-4 heads, Ross flat tops set at 0.0 deck height
Comp XE276HR cam - 224/230 @ .050 Lift .502/510 LSA 110
