Console for '64

1 Attachment(s)
The console we have is a '64 manual shift console. Whoever had it previously, painted the space between the chrome ribs black. I believe that area is supposed to be dark aqua for all '64's--the same color as the heater control panel.

The plastic "skirt" on the console is black plastic. Is that correct? Can someone post a '64 console picture showing the ribs on top?

Thank you.

Photo of an NOS '64 Lemans, GTO heater control.

(The color on this part should match the paint on the top of the console.) 64 only.

For 65 and 66 GTOs the top of the console paint in-between the chrome ribs; the color was satin black.

Pete, do you have a p/n and source for this color or do you have it custom mixed? THX

I got some paint from Scott Tiemann at Supercar Specialties for my ‘64 Tempest. Uses the same color on my heater control and dash face. He has a formula for it. He mixed it, or had it mixed and shipped it to me. I was very happy with it.

The console base matches color of carpet.

No, there is no name or code # for this color in any paint chip book that I have ever seen nor have I ever found a paint mix formula for it.

If, on a rare chance that you would have ordered a new 1964 top chrome console plate back then the part would have come already painted in-between the ribs. So there was no information published as far as that color goes.

The other issue now is that those pigments including the formula to mix it were part of brand of paint (Acrylic Lacquer) which is no longer available.

Here is what the paint referenced in #9 post above looks like on a gauge panel.

It's good paint & I find it useful for gauge jobs on some of the pieces however I don't really think it's anywhere close in color to the top of a '64 GTO console.

NOTE: (The color you see here may vary slightly due to your screen and/or monitor settings.)

WOW, doesn't look like a good match to me, either.

Here's what I had used on my console. Perfect match.

My apologies, Chrisp is right. I grabbed the wrong can. Here is the correct one.

It's been a long time since I ordered from Tower paint. If I remember correctly, you can call them and mention gm 1964 blue and they should have it in there files for the correct formula. Send me a pm if you need any more details. Hope this helps you.

According to google APS Tower paint is permanently closed
