68 Firebird - Which 4" x 6" 4 ohm kick panel speakers work best?
 

I realize versions of this question have been posted in earlier years, but the speaker models and quality seem to change over time, so I'm posting it again.

While the original speakers were 10 ohm, I'll be able to use the modern 4 ohm speakers with the stereo setup I'll be using. I do however plan on using the original style kick panel speaker grills and don't want to cut up any of the metal structure that will be in back of the speakers. I see many speakers available, but it's hard to know what fits and still sounds good (which is also subjective).

I have looked at all of the usual 1st Gen Firebird and Camaro suppliers and I know those are supposed to fit, but now sure if they sound all that great. There are many on Amazon, but I can't tell if they will fit depth wise. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks

Saw your post dying on the vine. I can't speak to 4x6's.

I used 6" Pioneers, nothing special, and cut my factory kick panels since they already had some condition issues. The structure allowed for the speaker magnets to fit in the gap.

One cannot neglect their tunes! I will keep watching this.

Thanks for the info. Some 45 years ago, I ran Pioneer 6 x 9 speakers in my cars and they did really well. If you get a few minutes to answer, I have a couple of questions.

1.) I did you mount them on the surface of the kickpanels or behind them?

2.) Did you use the original GM factory all metal type grills like these or something else? https://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/...it-w-Hardware/

3.) Was it the Pioneer TS-G460 speakers or a different model of Pioneers?

I will have to look. I thought I got them off Amazon, but can't find any order history other than the 6x9's I put in the back deck. They are pretty basic 6" round speakers, and mount to the kick panel plastic via thin metal screw clips. I had to do some measuring so I could cut the hole in the right place and allow the speaker magnet to fit in the void of the metal behind the kick panel. The speaker grill snaps on the outside.
