'69 Q-Jet O-ring Needle & Seat
 

I'm working on rebuilding a '69 Carter manufactured Q-Jet (7029262) which appears to be off a 428. First time I've seen a needle and seat that's not threaded in. The needle and seat kits for early Q-Jets look close, but aren't quite the same. Anyone know what I should be looking for?

Research is telling me that the threads may have been drilled out in the past because they were stripped and this push in style was the fix. Someone's definitely been through this carb before (looks like multiple times) so it's not unlikely. Wondering if helicoil is an option to save it or if it's junk.

Many years ago I had a 1967 Q-jet that had a seat that was not screwed in. I didn't know what to do. At the time they were a dime a dozen so I just got a different one. I would be interested in knowing also.

Be sure to get a replacement that can take today’s fuel!
A old kit I would say clear of especially since those early carbs where limited on the leverage applied to the needle .

I got in touch with Mark at Quadrajet Power since that's where I got the rebuild kit from. He suggested it was drilled out and said the early style needle and seat won't fit the bore. I was trying to reclaim my '68 Q-Jet from my son's car and use this '69, but I'm not optimistic on repairing this.

If you can tap the hole to 1/2"-20 you should be able to install needle & seat oversize insert with 1/2"-20 Male Thread x 3/8"-24 Female Thread.
Gasket seals on the insert.
It will help to install the inlet seat with gasket into the insert first, then install the assembly into carb and seal the outer 1/2" threads with Marine Tex as a last resort to rescue a rare carb.

Thanks. It is a Carter casting. I'll see if I can find a brass insert and give it a try. I happen to have some Marine Tex from an old carb build sitting around, too.

Use a windowless N/S with a .135” supply orifice. If Mark doesn’t sell them, then get one from Cliff…..and a good pump from him as well. Cliff’s are the best quality pumps available and come with a lifetime guarantee.
