Real radio faceplate, or high school metals class project?

Was going through a pile of old parts, and found this. It came off my 67 many years ago when it had an 80's shaft style cassette stereo. Is it a real part from back in the day, or just something somebody made in shop class? 3/32" steel plate.

looks homemade to me

I have seen far worse fabrication.

I would not toss it.

Lol. The relative precision of it, combined with the age/patina, made me wonder. The shaft style aftermarket 80's cassette stereo fit nicely with this plate. I have no frame of reference for what was original, tho. I bought this car from a co-worker whose wife drove it in high school back in the 80's.

Does anybody have a pic of what the center dash metal and trim plate looked like BEFORE being modded for aftermarket radios?
