71-72 A body Ram Air intake setup
 

On the hunt for a complete Ram Air setup for a 71-72 A body. Specifically the air cleaner assembly & hood pan/plate.

It appears they don't reproduce these any longer, so I'm on the search. I'm open to reproduction or original pieces.

Are you looking for a setup for a 455HO car, or for a D-port. Be aware they are different. The 455HO air cleaner has a hot air tube on both snorkels, whereas the D-port only has a hot air tube on one side.

I'm not sure which one is harder to find. I have one for a 455HO car (for my project) I can share photos of if you need them.

At one time, I think somebody was fabricating just the snorkels for these. If you can find the correct snorkels, you can convert a 1970-1972 Formula non-ram air base to a ram air base.

And don't forget you will need the impossible to find throttle cable bracket that fits under the drop base air cleaner. I bought a so called repop several years ago but tossed it as it didn't work as the placement of the throttle cable end was not correct and too close to the carb throttle linkage if I remember correctly. This resulted in considerable slack in the throttle cable between the end of the throttle cable sheath and the carb linkage attachment point.

I think the throttle bracket off the non-ram air Formula is the same.

It would be great if the throttle bracket for a Formula was the same as it would allow me to finally use the RA set-up I have been sitting on for 10+ years on my 455HO '71 GTO . Can someone confirm this info?

Problem solved. Looks like this throttle cable bracket is now available in reproduction by AMES under part number N147MG and maybe can be seen in the latest GTO catalog which I do not have. Says it is for 1971 Ram air GTO with 455HO and repopped by AMES which the one I bought years ago was not and I think that one I got from either OPGI or one of the other large multi make parts distributors.

Poncho Mike, I'm searching for the HO setup. I've recently acquired a correct 72 HO for my 72 LeMans GT, so I'd like to make the install as correct as possible. Mine has the T-41 nose, so that's why I'm hunting for the full Ram Air HO setup.

Mr G, thanks for the heads up on the shorter throttle bracket. I'll take a look at that next.

Again, if anyone has a setup, or a partial set up. Really, any of the pieces that they are willing to sell, please let me know.

Not mine and shipping to AZ may make this cost prohibitive but base price appears reasonable, if you still need the hood pan.

OPG shows the air cleaner in repop and in stock. Maybe someone on here has purchased this from them and can comment on quality and correctness of this unit.

I also have a 1972 Lemans with the 455HO. Mine is a Lucy Blue 4-spd convertible. I've been collecting parts for years for that car. It may be going up for sale later this year.

At one point, somebody was maintaining a registry for 1971 - 1972 non-GTO 455HO A-bodies. I think there were only around 100 cars or so made over both years.

I may have an extra 455HO air cleaner, I'll have to check. I bought a repop top ram air pan a long time ago for my car, no spares on that part.
