Will a flat white, and a gloss white be equally glossy after 2k Clear?
This is maybe a dumb question. Im working on custom flaking/striping one of my welding hoods. Ive got it flaked and 2k cleared over, curing before I sand it and start airbrushing it.
I want to add a white stripe in part of it, but I want it to be glossy. I have some high quality MTN 94 spray paint, which Ive ran through my airbrush before. Just spray a little of it into the airbrush cup. But the white I have of it is flat. If I spray on that flat white, and then clear coat it, will it be just as glossy as if I went and bought a GM fleet white base coat? |
The answer is yes! Make sure to clear the complete helmet.

My general process, just from watching dudes do motorcycle tanks on YT has been, primer base mid coat with flake clear ....cure for a couple days and sand with like 800 tape, and airbrush any graphics. 2k clear again. Polish if im feeling ambitious. Ive seen where people will put 2k clear on it, or do more stages of clear base to lock down graphics, before they do more stuff, but Im an amatuer and try to keep it to a single layer of the fun stuff. |

Came out okay. Let’s all remember I just like to mess around with flake and my airbrush. I’m in no way a pro.
First time messing with gold leaf and image transfer. Learned some lessons. It feels like it needs a little more. Some pinstripe outline probably in a couple places. But I haven’t pulled any lines in a while (not that I’ve ever been good at it) and wasn’t confident on the base coat.now that it has hard 2k I may try to stipe it. I can just wipe it off if it sucks. |
