Opinions please, 4 speed linkage replacement with lockout.
the car is a 71 LeMans with what appears to be a 67 Muncie in it and a tilt column from a 70-72 Grand Prix, I believe. The linkage is a mish mash of rods from I guess different years , it works as it is but I would like to make it right at the same time I am rebuilding the Comp Plus shifter in the car. The reverse lights work on a switch that has a plunger that works off the reverse rod and is bolted to the shifter.
What I am looking for is a complete set up or parts to make this work the way GM planned it. One of my concerns is that GP column, that probably is an Auto column, will a manual lockout work on it? I do have a chevy tilt here also that I could use If that would work better than the GP. As it is I can't get the key to go to the Accessory position, but I think that may be just a adjustment that I need to work out on the column. I have seen some great looking shifter rods online that have a much more modern pattern and adjustment methods built into them, maybe I should go that route? Thanks for your help, Mark |
Anyone have a comment? First swap meet of the year is in 2 weeks, I might find what I need there if I knew what I was looking for.

The automatic column should work just fine. Surely the correct linkage parts should do what you want. You might have to mix and match parts to make it work. Good luck to you.

The aftermarket stuff took SIGNIFICANT modification (cutting/welding) to work correctly on my 71 - beware!

Great news on the Grand Prix column, I had hoped it would work. Now to get some good linkage and the reverse lockout rod.
Automanina is in Allentown on the 16th and last year there were a few vendors selling linkage and shifters . Some good Pontiac vendors also. If anyone else has some comments, please post. Scarebirds comments on the aftermarket stuff is a big concern. |
I have original if needed
