Single stage vs single stage w clear coat
I have my single stage Orbit Orange paint already. I have heard nightmares about wetsanding and buffing after it gets fully cured. I have plenty of SPI Universal clear I could topcoat with to make that process easier. Question is - does clear over single stage change the "look" of the single stage?

Best thing to do is spray a couple of test panels and compare them.

I would think the prudent thing to do would be to sand/buff the OO instead of worrying about any perceived 'nightmares' you've 'heard' about. You will need to sand the cured OO anyway before clearing it, so what is there to lose?

Im far from a professional, but as long as your TDS for your orange says its compatible with clearcoat, I would clear on top with the universal clear. Just because it gives more room for error on burn through later.

I painted my car with Omni AE single stage and it wasn't bad to sand -buff. I wish I had put on 4 coats instead of 3 tho, my first job and it needed some leveling :D .
Maybe a higher quality ss would be different. I hear most clears are easy to sand and buff but IDK. I like the look of ss paint on older cars. John |
