Mixed emotions
 

My 1974 GTO left yesterday.

It had to go, but sorry to see it leave.

At least it went to the wife of my best friend; and will be cared for. They are a GM family.

One spends a lifetime accumulating toys, and then watches as they are dispersed to younger collectors.

Being a friend i bet ya can still take it out once in awhile,hopefully. As you said it's nice to see it go to someone who will appreciate it.

Mixed emotions yep! But a new owner that you know will appreciate as much as you did should go a long way. I recently (last few years) received two vehicles from my wife's side that could have been sold easily for substantial amounts but were given to me knowing how much I would care for them. BTW hope they will be on PY forums.

Sounds like the car comes with a maint mechanic...mixed emotions.

Maybe this notion helps; sold my 68 GTO because i donta like having to put a car through a paint job a 2nd time. Even after 15-20 years.

Glad when sold my Bird it went to Sweden so I'd never run into it again..

It is staying in the Family so to speak.

We are not OWNERS as much as caretakers we preserve the history of the type of cars we have, we preserve their legacy. Some in stock form and some modified. . Yet we ALL share the story and history of them. Sometimes we have to pass the torch to those we deem responsible enough to keep the history alive.

Some will and some will not . Over time the history will fade slowly away like everything else.

Some folks keep-up a relation after the sale. Others do not....oh well.

There will be no problem in this instance; we have been friends for at least 40 years. Cannot think of anyone to whom I would have rather sold this vehicle.

He and his wife have both joined GTOAA, and the car will be both driven and showed at local and regional car shows.

And, they have a grandson who is interested in cars !

Did you get the "de-tuning" work done to it, you were planning?

They removed the 850 CFM race carburetor and replaced it with an 800 CFM Carter TQ (electric choke). Leaving the rest for the time being. They live in the country, and figure when driven, the engine will be warm before the first stop sign. They have a stock intake and a stock flywheel if testing reveals idle issues. Hope they can keep the aluminum flywheel; for those that have never driven a car with one, it REALLY changes the ability of the engine to rev higher and faster.

It did idle nicely as 850~950 RPM once the engine is hot. If it gets hot before they reach the city, there won't be a problem.

Yea, had 1 of those aluminum flywheels for the 455, yet i was enamored with the OHC-6 SPRINT at the tine. Sold the ALUM V8 Flywheel, sold The OHC-6 stick car, and went "oops" shoulda kept that Alum flywheel. Been Th400 since.

Since I bought my 68 GTO in 1976, on high school graduation day, and I still have it, and it's been on an untold number of adventures, mis-adventures, 20+ year "restoration" ...well, I'm almost considering, when MY time comes, parking it out on the north 20 and burning it to the ground. And I will follow it to the great hunting ground shortly after.

Can't bear to think of it ending up abused, or rusting away, or traded around for profit.

I don't think any of my nieces or nephews will be interested.

It's greatest value is locked up in my own memories, and they go when I do. Heck, if I "take it with me" ...maybe I can drive it in the afterlife :)

Jr is plotting my death to get the keys to mine.

I cannot imagine the grief of selling her beforehand.

Sounds like she is going to a good place.

#2 daughter is getting mine. She helped from time to time with the restoration and currently, she and my son are the only ones in the family that can drive a manual transmission.
Son doesn't have anywhere to keep it, the other two daughters aren't interested.
