Header fitment for a 69 Firebird
 

I am thinking of getting headers for my Firebird . I am looking for recommendations on ones that fit well without having to beat and bend them to fit.

Doug’s headers.

Second on the Dougs headers. They fit nicely up against the floor boards and don't impact ground clearance.

On my car I did have to make a dent in the driver side forward tube to clear the zirk fitting on the inner tie rod as it was contacting the tube. My car is very low however and that may not happen on a stock height car.

A standard sized filter will not fit however. You'll either need to use a smaller filter and increase your oil change frequency or run a remote mount filter.

Biggest issue with any headers and a first gen is fitment next to the steering box. Never good. If you have larger tubes because you make 575+hp it gets even closer and if you use a new Borgeson box they will for sure hit that slightly larger box.

Unless over 500hp or so just go with ram air manifolds honestly. Won't notice anything other than sound really.

Hedmans D port #35270 fit perfect, Doug's if you are running round Port heads.

Why don't you get the stock headers (Long Branch Manifolds) for it?
Don't forget you'll need the oil filter housing adaptor no matter what, plus I would go with a RobbMc. starter, it has an aluminum casing for heat dissipation and it's adjustable so you can move it away from the header.
I've run Long Branches with a RobbMc on my Ram Air III 400 since completing it in 2014, I've never had a heat sink starter problem or an exhaust leak.

So, Rob, what did you decide?

Does not help OP much these days, but my vintage 1 7/8 x 3.5" long tube equal length D-Port headers by "Headers by Ed" fit like a glove.

As Tom stated, custom frequently is king. Both in fit and price!

I used Hedmans on my 67. I got a set with the ball/cone collector. 35270 looks like what I have. Decent fit.

I did have to do a little hammering for oil filter clearance. And it definitely required a curved Pontiac pitman arm.

I haven't ordered anything yet, I've decided on another engine instead. i

Has anyone heard anything about patriot headers, they are part of pertronics/ Dougs headers group. and was wondering if anyone here has used that brand.

i have a set of dougs dports on a 68 four speed in rhode isalnd. they fit very nice.
i also picked up a set of 25 yr old hooker supercomps from a guy with a 68 firebird convertible last summer. they are in very good shape if your interested.

is there a part number for it?

Hi Rob,
I have a set of first gen firebird headers that I bought cheap at Stafford Springs Swap last year. I'm not going to use them for anything.
I bought them cheap because I wanted to try them out and see if they fit my 63 Tempest- but they didn't.
I'm in Brentwood- so close by & if you're interested I'll let you have them cheap.
