Wheel Vintiques Rally 1
 

I am thinking of getting a set of Wheel Vintiques Rally 1 wheels for my 65 GTO, 15x8 for the rear, 15x7 for the front. Has anyone tried them lately? Wondering about trim ring fit as I saw there were some problems for users some time ago. How about fit,finish, and quality? Thanks.

I have a set. I ended up using a generic trim ring off of Ebay that is actually pretty convincing and fits well. I have another set of the 15x7's on order. They were supposed to be available at the end of December, but no word yet. I ordered them from Coker since they actually own Wheel Vintiques so I figured that would be my best shot at actually getting them. I am assuming they will fill their own orders before everyone elses. I know 15x8 will work on the rear, as I had a set on my car. I think 15x8 will be a problem on the front of a 65 as you can't run a really wide tire up there as they rub on the back of the fender when turning. 235's will rub for sure and anything much narrower on a 8 inch rim will probably be too narrow for the rim. I bought a set for my build last year. 15x7 fronts and 15x8 rears. Wheel vintiques was out of the 15x7 when I ordered but jegs had some in stock. Running 235s front and 275s rear. The 15x8 rears honestly have a bit too much backspacing as it brought the tire very close to the body so I have 1/2 spacers on for now but I'm building a 71 12 bolt for the car as it is wider. Overall I love the wheels and I went with wheel vintiques trim rings pn# 3003-p-1. Then I found some center caps on eBay as wheel vintiques was sold out, plus I got a better deal on them. I will say though it's an expensive wheel once you factor in the trim rings and center caps.

Thank you for the information, I appreciate it. I called Coker, was told they would be in by mid March. I have a 65 12 bolt, so it is standard width. I can see that the 5” backspacing will come very close to the bottom shock mount. I am now running vintage 15x7 Torq thrusts that have been widened in the back by an inch,, so the back spacing is 4”, the front is also 4”, so I can fit a 255x60 tire without rubbing. The problem with them is they are hard to balance as they don’t have much room for balance weights due to disk brake calipers. So, I was looking at the Rally 1s for easier balancing, as well as traditional Pontiac sryle. It would be great if we had a choice on backspacing, but Vintiques no longer makes custom sizes.

Do you think a 255x60 tire would fit without rubbing? Thanks.

Thanks for the info., I will look at those trim rings. Coker rep told me they would be available by mid March. I am currently running a vintage 15x7 Torq thrust up front, with 3” back space, so 4” front space, and it doesn’t rub with 225s. Front end is also lowered 2” in front, as well as rear.

Word of caution regarding rear disc brakes and rally 1s. If you look at my build in my signature I had a disc setup in the rear, the type that uses 80s Camaro rear calipers with parking brake, and although they were just fine with a set of 15x7 outlaw I wheels they would not allow the rally 1s to fit. And I tried, I ground the hell out of them to the point I considered them unsafe so I switched back to drums in the rear.

Being lowered in the front helps. Drops the lower tip of the fender down around the arc of the tire. I run stockish sizes so I can't help much more with the rub. From what I've seen, 235 is about as wide as you can go. Any wider and rubbing the frame at full turn becomes a factor.

Yes, I agree on the 235x60-15 is max for the front.

Well the good news the 15x7 Rally I's are in and I got mine today. The bad news is in my opinion it's a crappy reproduction. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance, but the shape of the 6 holes around the center is wrong. They don't flare out like my older set does (or the originals for that matter) and there is a incorrect raised edge around each hole. I'm toying with the idea of sending them back, but nobody else makes a reproduction wheel. Highly disappointed Coker. The old ones made in the USA looked much better!

Here's some pics. An original, an older Wheel Vintiques, and the latest reproduction. The holes are the wrong shape on the ends, they're too square. They look like a mid 70's Chevy Nova Rally rim.

In all fairness here, I contacted Coker today and they let me return the wheels and covered return shipping too. A+++ for customer service. No hassle at all.

I am also interested in these wheels. I called a rep from the company and he said that he was not aware of any changes in the wheel, but was going to look into it. Cardo, did you have any luck talking to anyone about it?

That's disappointing my set is with the correct style holes.

I did. They told me they would pass it on, but I'm reasonably certain with tooling costs this is what we're going to get. I'm still looking for some of the old style ones new or used.

I visited with the rep again and he now sees the difference. He said the tooling was supposed to be the same and does not understand what happened. He said that he passed it on up the chain and see what comes of it.

Even if they fix it, we're going to have to wait for them to sell this run out before they make more. It may be a bit.
