GTO factory auto shifter

Did the auto shifter with the TH400 in the GTO work like the Dual Gate from 1968?

Yep, pull the lever down to L, push the lever towards the passenger side and shift forward one step at a time.

From The 1970 Performance Brochure:

The 69-later A and G body shifters worked similarly to the 67-68 Dual Gate GTO shifters.

They had just a standard-looking single gate, but functioned similarly as the shift shaft pivoted to the right side of the gate. I think they were referred to as a "Rally shifter" and were on those cars thru 1972. Not sure after that. Also not sure if the F-body cars had them or not, but I "think so".

Did all GTOs and GPs from '69-'72 get this shifter?

I had a auto 79 TA once and the shifter worked the same way but it was a little awkward. Not as smooth as like a B&M quicksilver or a ratchet shifter like that when your slapping through the gears.
