Massachusetts title issue with a deceased previous owner
 

Just a heads up... I bought a 1969 Buick GS 400 4 speed from an estate cleanout from a gentleman that had passed away. The car was last registered in New York back in the 70's, with no registration or title present. The Mass RMV, much to my surprise, actually provided me with guidance on how to go about getting a title (!!!), which did work.

1. If the previous owner is deceased, send a certified letter, in the previous owners name, to their last known address. It should come back "undeliverable".
2. Have your local police department come down and complete the VIN check form
3. Type up a statement of ownership history, to the best of your knowledge, and include a statement about the certified letter
4. Complete the RTA form for the title.
5. Bring ALL of the above to the RMV.

Didn't need a bond or anything. Just all of the above. For those of you that have dealt with the Mass DMV know how much of a pain it may be... Maybe this will help one of you.

That sounds like a pain but glad it work out. You would think a bill of sale from the "Estate Of ..." signed by the executor cover the requirements.
