Hurst aluminum trim ring
Probably 40 years ago I bought 2 of these from a Hemmings ad. The ad did not mention they were aluminum, so I was somewhat baffled when they arrived. I had restored a set of wheels, but had no trim rings, so I was trying to find any rings I could. I seem to recall these aluminum rings were retained by folding over a small tab after the ring was pressed onto the wheel. Biggest disappointment was that some rocket scientist had sandblasted these things. I started trying to wet sand, buff with a coarse wheel and Emory compound, etc., etc. I spent many hours on a spot about 3 inches square, but accomplished very little. I then projected how much time and effort it would take to repair both rings and hung them up on the wall where they remain to this day. Bought some aftermarket rings for my wheels, then eventually reproductions. Never saw another ad for aluminum rings, but I do know they existed. Probably pretty fragile though.
