Can anyone tell me how to remove the accessory toggle switches from the dash of a 69 GTO? I see a metal clip with side tabs that looks like it is holding the switch on,from behind the dash.I just don't want to attempt to remove it the wrong way and damage anything.
Thanks.

there's a square spring clip around the body of the switch that's curved so top and bottom of the clip press against the back side of the dash. in the middle of each side there's a small tang on the retainer clip that drops into a hole in the middle of each side of the switch body. best way is to get small jewelers flat head screwdriver, put it between the retaining clip and the body of the switch, then push the bowed middle of the retainer back towards the dash while twisting the screw driver to pop the tang out of the hole in the switch body. once that's out, pull the switch towards that side of the released clip and pull the screwdriver out. your doing that so the tang doesnt pop back into the hole. then slide the screwdriver in the other side of the clip and gently pry the clip to the side to disengage the tang from that side of the switch. once both sides are released, push the switch out through the dash hole. it's a pain and be careful because you don't want to break the clip. I see they sell repops for them now but they're a bit different than the originals with only having the tangs turned up on the clip without the two supporting flaps that help center the clip when installed.
to reinstall, simply push the switch back into the dash and feed the clip back up through the harness. once around the switch, you have to push on the middle of the clip on each side to slide the tangs down until they pop into the holes in the switch and then the spring action of the clip will hold it in place.
