Dash lights issue
 

Went to a night time test and tune on Friday. When I left the pit area to get in the staging lanes the dash lights and the parking lights were on as usual. I had the switch knob in the first position. 10 minutes later I cranked up to change lanes. No dash lights or parking lights. The headlights were working but nothing else. I checked the fuse first thing but that was not the problem. I got out my multi meter and checked for current at the fuse. There was no current even on the hot side of the fuse. Before I remove the fuse panel is there something else I should be looking for?

Is this on your 69 bird, or your 79 TA?

If it's the 69, it could be the parking lamp circuit. It's my understanding that the parking lamps are divorced from the high amperage headlight circuit via the headlight switch. If the parking circuit failed on the headlight switch, it would take out both the parking lamps and the dash lights, but the headlights should still function.

That's the first place I would check. Unfortunately, where that's positioned, that almost means a full dash bezel out experience on the '69, which is never fun.

If this is on your TA, I don't have information about that, but the situation may be similar.

I should have said its the 79T/A. The fuse panel is labeled instrument cluster and parking lights on the same circuit. Since getting home from the track and looking further into the problem I discovered that I don't have any lights except the headlights and the courtesy lights. No brake lights, no emergency flasher or turn signals either. I don't think there is a relay somewhere that took everything out? Really stumped at this point.

Might have blown a fusible link.

Clay, do you know where to look for the fusible link? We had one burn out on my son's 69 Bird many years ago and it was in part of the harness between the firewall and the front of the engine.

Pretty sure there on the battery lug on the starter solenoid.

If not, they will be behind the alternator.
