66 Tri Power
 

I found this 66 Tri Power set up, at least the seller claims it a 66. It looks complete and I might buy it. Just want to get a Tri Power pro to take a look at the pics and see what it's worth. Thanks

Definitely a 66 setup. Linkage and air cleaners are a plus. Price would depend upon the carbs being correct and rebuildable. If carbs are correct, 66 tri powers, I would think up to $1000.00 would be worth it, depending on how bad you want it. Start at $750

The 66 Tri Power set up is usually considered the most desirable for performance. I usually see the for sale from $1600- $2200 around here in various conditions. Not sure if they are actually selling for these amounts. I’m talking about set ups that need to be gone though, not totally restored ready to go units. With that said, last month I picked up a clean and very nice 65 Tri Power set up. It has the correct carbs, choke, fuel lines etc and I paid $1300. I felt that was a fair price for what I was getting.

Also, I guess it would depend on how badly you want/need the Tri Power. I’m currently assembling a 421 block for my 65 GTO. The Tri Power was very close by and I needed it for my project and I wasn’t willing to let this slip buy and wait for a cheaper one to come around.

I agree. Offer $750. The carbs and manifold appear to be in decent condition. The home-made slotted rod can be replaced by a factory piece, and the center throttle arm extension, although a '65, could be used as is.

A restored '65 or '66 Tri-Power will sell for about $3200. I have never paid more than $850 for a restorable '66 setup. I charge $950 for a complete restoration of the carbs, including dichromating the carb bodies, plating the steel linkage pieces, rebuilding the bases with DAG213 on the end carb throttle plates, and calibrating the carbs for your engine combo. The air cleaner tops are seldom usable unless you don't care about appearance, while the air cleaner bases are usually retorable.

I would verify that the center carb is a true Pontiac 66. Hard to tell with the air cleaner on but something does not look correct with the throttle arm and air horn. If it is not, it would help price it correctly.

End carbs look correct, but the center is a '72 or newer carb with the higher airhorn. Functionally OK, but lowers the value.

AFAIK, the larger/higher airhorn for Pontiac 2GC´s was introduced for 1970 and did not use the idle bowl vent as this center carb have.

If you can get it for $750-850 get the carbs restored by one of the pros on here. At minimum you can put in a plexi glass case on display. Restored tri-powers are beautiful!

What is the device on the passenger side? Is that related to the California smog provision on the driver's side?
