Trans am dash panel
 

I’m having issues with the search function so will ask here. It appears there are no reproduction engine turned dash panels? I see small pieces like switch plates but not the entire panel. What are people doing to get theirs renewed?

A fellow named Randy Coombs does restoration on the dashes. Repops are available from AMEs and others. AMEs part number FA554TC for A/C car. FA554TH for non A/C cars.

I am looking at a 73 to buy and trying to determine restoration costs. Thanks for the info.

The non-a/c dash bezels are harder to find than a/c bezels.

It’s an a/C car. Are the AMES ones just a vinyl sticker? Are there any replacement panels like originals being made? Perhaps the vinyl covers look real enough?

No one is reproducing the entire dash bezel. The options are only the stick on covers that may require some trimming for a perfect fit and can be a bit of a pain to get applied perfectly the first try or send your existing bezel out to Randy Combs who refinishes them so they look like brand new from the factory. I do not know what he charges for this and maybe someone who has had it done can chime in. There are other companies that do bezel restorations, but Randy specializes in T/A bezels.

Just looked at Rany's sight, Trans Am Dash Bezels. Says that the charge for a complete bezel restoration is $200.00. This seems like the best way to get the job done in a professional manner.

forgetting the a/c vs non-a/c, the engine turned dash panels are easiest to group as such:
70-72 (separate light/wiper callout holes)
73-74 (combined light/wiper callout hole)
75-79 (addition of RTS badge above column for 1975)
80-81 (signal cutout changed from triangle to circle for 1980)

I personally hate the look of the decals;
The decals to me just look cheap, and I'd suggest that if you want to go that route, put the decal on a 1973-1979 non-TA dash insert - because the metal/finish behind the decal makes no matter;
The decal will cover the woodgrain, and cover the RTS badge holes - I am pretty sure that the these are the cheapest dash inserts to buy.
Putting a decal on a non-TA dash inserts leaves you to restore a donor engine turned insert, or sell it to someone else who will.
