Engine Removal
I'm planning removal of my 421 from my 66 2+2. I've never removed a Pontiac engine. My experience has been chevys. I usually just removed the carb and put a lift plate on in its place. Can I do the same with a Pontiac intake and vally pan? Or do I attach to it differently?

Use the same way will work.

If you’re going to use a carb plate and not just span a chain from the passenger rear head to the front drivers head then the hood will need to come off if I recall right.
Yes the carb will need to be removed to span the motor. If the 1/8” coolant drain pipe plugs do not come out on each side of the motor above the oil pan rails then remove the lower hose at the radiator end and jack up the ass end of the car off the ground. This will drain the block enough that pulling the heads off or the timing cover while on an engine stand will not leave you with a antifreeze mess in the cylinders or on your floor. |
Thanks for the info. I was concerned that the intake couldn't take the weight of lifting the engine.
I definitely planned on removing the hood. No need to have anything in the way |

set chain in the middle of the plate and the engine will lift straight up, just clear the trans.
