TH400 modulator application

Going thru some boxes in garage and came across these modulators.
Wondering what the original applications were.
Can’t get into parts lookup, so I thought I would ask y’all.

I used to toss em since they were big and heavy.

Now those are kinda neat, and desired.

Modulators

Yeah they are garage art. Just wondering what applications were.
Tested and all hold vacuum. Just one seems to take more to activate
And when dumping vacuum. It really thuds back to rest position.

The adjustment screw is probably spot-welded in position. Break the spot-weld, and they become adjustable. Unlike the cheap, little aftermarket units, the big black cans are altitude-compensated.

Are the NOS Borg Warner (VM400) units any good? They look identical to the original GM part.
