Switch pitch pump stator shaft
Just got another th400 to replace my ailing one. BOP cases are hens teeth in Canada. So, I go get this core. $400canuck bucks. It has dual terminals on plug, like my present switch pitch. Mine never worked and I busted input shaft. So swapped regular pump/stator shaft and 3600 stall heavy fluid spinny bit.
Now this trans has a 13" sp converter. The dual bushings inside throat before splines But pump has no journal with feed hole. Question is, anyone make them anymore or is used only option? I not total sure I wana go sp. it would be cool. 18yeaes ago? Trans builder couldn't get mine to work, so I just busted the input shaft on hard shift and moved on. Doing full manual shift kit etc etc Is it even something I should worry about trying to get parts and make sp work? 77 TA with 455HO punched to 470. 3.08 rears. Highway town don't drag race anymore. But spirited driving always |
I had a switch pitch converter until I went to over drive. My car weighed 3725 lbs with me and a quarter tank of gas. It made 586 engine hp. The trans was built locally and I never had any problem with it. If you can get yours to work I would highly recommend it.

There's a trans shop in Elk Grove Illinois that modifies standard shafts to work for switch pitch applications. He sells them on eBay along with a bunch of other transmission parts.

I gots a Sw-P 400 with 12" converter sitting (was in my 68), and may have a spare front-pump+ FWD Pack. Shipping is the only grief.
Sw-P is a nice setup for highway gears in the heavy car. Pull-away TQ & Passing power are the deal. |
Bruce Roe sells--or used to sell--an electronic controller for switch-pitch transmissions. IF (big IF) they're still available, I strongly suggest you get one. They provided MUCH more control over the stator than the OEM switch. I bought mine ages ago, for the switch-pitch TH425 in a Toronado.
The last contact info I had for Bruce was [email protected] |
