BathTub intake v2.0
I had some open spindle time to I developed a new version of the venerable bathtub intake repop.
This new version uses the same bathtub base and adds a billet lid converting the entire setup to full sequential EFI, with a front style throttle body. Not sure if anybody is interested in this, but it turned out pretty good so I'll go ahead and post it up. If there is an interest in this EFI Bathtub, let me know I will create the casting patterns to lower costs. Currently it is available only as a billet, which is expensive. As a casting, it will be comparable in price to the original. If you already have a Bathtub v1.0 (carbureted) you can convert to EFI by sending the base back and I can rework it for the injector bosses (NO welding) and then buy a new lid. Before we get into the pictures, some highlights: - The injector rails are hidden underneath in the valley, which conceals the fuel rails, injectors, and injector harnesses making for a clean installation. - The overall height is very low profile, quite a bit lower than a factory carb/air cleanser setup, and should fit under the hood with ease. - Vacuum provisions are provided in a "panel" at the rear of the manifold, above the distributor, provisions are for power brakes, auto trans, MAP, and manifold referenced vacuum for the fuel regulator. If not needed these can be plugged. Provision is also provided for a MAT sensor by the front throttle blade. - This can be used N/A, or also in turbo, Procharger, or Torque Storm force induction. - Clears stock and aftermarket valley pans w/front PVC. - Throttle body sizes from 90 mm to 102 mm are supported. Shown is a 92 mm. That really looks neat and clean. I like the low profile as well. I always disliked the cluttered look on top with LS engines. Hiding the fuel rails, no 8 coils like an LS, the Pontiac EFI looks great. The famous bathtub got thrown into a time machine. Nice job.

Do you have a picture with say 4bbl throttle bodies on it to make it look like carbs but still really EFI? Do you have a picture of the bottom with the top removed to see where the injectors are angled at in relation to the intake ports? Any testing done with this set up yet?

Okay that’s super cool! I know you said it’s lower profile, but do you happen to have a measurement of the peak height? I have a second gen TA and hood clearance is limited. Would you have an option to place the fuel rails in a traditional configuration? 105mm throttle body option?

This is freaking awesome! The cost is somewhat prohibitive for me (assuming more than the bathtub 1.0), but I hope you get a bunch of buyers.
Any idea what kind of power band you'd expect on a 460+" engine? |
It's designed to fit a 2nd Gen F body, we will be doing a fit check on one soon. I will take some photos when we do the check. You can move the fuel rails to the traditional position if you like, this requires bungs as the manifold walls are not thick enough here to support the injectors. We can add these to the casting without much difficulty, if there is enough interest in moving the project forward into a casting.. As is, the manifold is sized for up to a 102 mm TB, if you want to use a 105 MM I can make a simple adapter.

So its look like the project is a go. I am taking pre-orders now as there will be an initial casting run of 10 pieces and these will be pre-sold. No deposits will be taken until the casting tooling is done and we have first articles as foundries are notoriously slow. |
