4l80e dip stick
 

Hello all,

To those who have converted to 4L80e in their first gen birds. What are you using for transmission dip stick? I've got a flexible Lokar unit which appears nice and all but a real pain when filling the trans and the filling tube/line is way too long. Curious what everyone else is using.

I should add, that the Lokar unit I'm using currently is the longer firewall mounted 2-piece unit. It's just too long. I did contact Lokar and they don't recommend shortening it. Their alternative is to recommend a shorter unit that has a bracket to mount onto one of the transmission bolts. It's a bit of an expensive trial an error approach that I would like to avoid.

I used the shorter Lokar one on my race car (24"? I think, can't remember) and it's perfect.

Spoke to a guy who's biz is "Masta Performance Inc.
He makes custom dip sticks that hug the trans for applications just like this

I used the dipstick that was on the transmission from the factory. My trans is a 94 model year out of a GMC 1500 pickup. It's big and sturdy with a nice locking lever for the dipstick itself.

The dipstick comes up the tunnel nicely and sits behind the passenger side valve cover. It's at an angle that can make filling a little more difficult, but it's not as though this is something that has to be done regularly. I just make sure I have a funnel that has an angled cutout.
